Listicles National Breastfeeding Month 2021

National Breastfeeding Month

The worst thing you want is a willy-nilly judge who is swayed by the political whims of the era or the time. What you want is a judge who is thinking about what he or she is doing and is thinking about it in a principled way.

Sonia Sotomayor

5 Breastfeeding Benefits

  1. Lifesaving

From the journal "Pediatrics": If 90% of families breastfed exclusively for six months, nearly 1,000 infant deaths could be prevented each year.

  2. Infant health

Research show breastfed babies have a lower risk of maladies including asthma, ear infections, diabetes, and respiratory problems.

  3. Environmentally friendly

Formula cans and bottles create waste. Breastmilk arrives package-free — and warm!

  4. Colostrum

Often referred to as "liquid gold' for its deep yellow color, colostrum's the thick first milk that you make during pregnancy and just after birth. It's quite rich in both nutrients and antibodies to protect your baby from infection.

  5. Weight loss?

Many breastfeeding women seem to get back to their pre-pregnancy weight more quickly, but experts are still looking into the effects.

Like all mammals, human mothers are blessed with the ability to produce and feed their babies milk. Breast milk has always held great cultural significance; the ancient Greeks believed that the Milky Way galaxy was formed by a swirl of the goddess Hera’s breastmilk (and that the breastmilk of a goddess could make a mortal invincible). We recognize National Breastfeeding Month every August.

Though the debate about whether or not to breastfeed is very old, the health benefits cannot be denied. According to the World Health Organization, universal breastfeeding could save about 820,000 infant lives each year.

Read on for even more benefits.

And remember, World Breastfeeding Week runs from August 1 to August 7.

World Lion Day 2021

World Lion Day

Every man should know, if you're comfortable and you like it, you should do it. Everyone always worries about what the girls think, what the guys think. If you like it, do it.

Tom Brady

Lion Day aims to raise awareness of the majestic hunter, the ultimate feline, the king of the jungle, the big fluffy kitty of the Serengeti… Hmm, we should have left it at ‘king of the jungle’?

Basically, it’s all about lions, but you’ve probably got that from the name.

History of World Lion Day

This celebration of the animal kingdom’s most beautiful and fearsome creature was founded by Big Cat Rescue, the world’s largest accredited sanctuary dedicated to big cats. August 10th is a day for people to come together from across the world to pay tribute to the mighty lion in as many ways as possible. Though a fun and exciting occasion for all, its foundations are based in a very serious matter: lion numbers have dramatically declined to the point where the species needs to be placed on the endangered list, just like its larger cousin the tiger.

World Lion Day is the brainchild of co-founders Dereck and Beverly Joubert, a husband-and-wife team with a passion for big cats. They began the initiative in 2013, bringing together both National Geographic and the Big Cat Initiative under a single banner to protect the remaining big cats living in the wild.

Lions – with the scientific name Panthera leo – are the second-largest cat in the world, just behind the Asian tiger. These immense creatures, weighing between 300 and 550 pounds, have sparked the popular imagination for centuries, inspiring awe through their speed and muscular power.

Three million years ago, lions roamed all over Africa and the Eurasian supercontinent. But today, various ice ages and changes in the natural environment means that their range is reduced primarily to Africa and select parts of Asia.

According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, lions are a “vulnerable” species, meaning that their numbers could and should be higher. Currently, researchers estimate that there are between 30,000 and 100,000 lions left on planet Earth. Without significant intervention, there is a chance that they could find themselves on the endangered list alongside other species most at risk of extinction.

World Lion Day, therefore, is an opportunity for lion lovers all over the planet to push back against the decline in the range and habitat of the king of beasts. These giant animals are among the world’s largest land species and an apex predator with a reputation like no other. It would be a tragic loss for both nature and humanity if the species were to disappear entirely from the natural environment.

The threats against lions, however, are all too real. They face the dual specters of increasingly popular “trophy hunting” and human incursion on their traditional wildlands. A reduction in food combined with hunting tourism is making them more vulnerable with every passing year. Over the last four decades, the lion population declined by fifty percent.

World Lion Day, therefore, has three objectives. The first is to raise awareness of the plight of the lion and the issues that the species faces in the wild. The second is to find ways to protect the big cat’s natural environment, such as creating more national parks and reducing the areas in which people can settle. And the third is to educate people who live near wild cats on the dangers and how to protect themselves. Humans and large species like cats can live in harmony together, but only if they understand how to do so.

How to celebrate World Lion Day

How you celebrate is entirely up to you. You could change your social media profile pictures to a lion for the day, draw a sketch and share it with friends, find out who has the loudest roar, or even get your coworkers to sponsor you to wear a lion jumpsuit to work, then make a donation to Big Cat Rescue’s ongoing mission.

The organizers of World Lion Day want to make it as easy as possible for anyone to get involved in supporting these majestic beasts and protecting them for future generations. If you head on over to their website, you’ll find code that you can use to embed World Lion Day images on your web pages. Visitors can then click the link to get forwarded to the World Lion Day website to donate for various projects.

When it comes to donating to charities, World Lion Day provides you with a host of options. Charities associated with the day include the African Conservation Foundation, African Parks, Defenders of Wildlife, Ewaso Lions, International Fund for Animal Welfare, LionAid, Lion Guardians, Nikela, Save Animals Facing Extinction, Saving The Lion Foundation and many more. You can either support these organizations directly or help the organizers of World Lion Day raise awareness of the number of charities attempting to improve the situation of lions.

According to World Lion Day, now is the time for action. They warn that if people don’t take steps today to help the lion, then the world could lose the species entirely. Therefore, the purpose of the movement is to get the message out and spread the word around the globe.

Those interested in helping, therefore, should, at the very least, “like” the official Facebook page and follow @BigCatRescue on Twitter, because the more we spread the word, the greater the chances of these incredible animals gracing our planet forevermore.

The difference that individual people can make is tremendous. Adding external links helps the World Lion Day website generate organic traffic for free, massively reducing its outreach costs. Thus, if you own a company, blog, or business site, consider adding one of their banners to your site to indicate your support for this critical environmental cause.

It’s not all doom and gloom, though. While the lion remains vulnerable, things are improving. As the world becomes wealthier, the demand to preserve the natural environment increases and these big cats stand to benefit. That’s something that has us all roaring with delight.

Fishing Month 2021

Fishing Month

My first assistant-coaching job in football was at William & Mary in 1961. The pay wasn't much, so to get $300 more per year, I agreed to coach the golf team. I didn't even know how to keep score, and really, my main job was not to wreck the van on the way to tournaments.

Lou Holtz

If you don’t know how to fish, then this is your big chance to do so because this month is Fishing Month! Fishing is a great activity to do for people of all ages, as it practically has been around since the beginning of humanity itself.

Throughout Fishing Month, people go out to their local parks and recreation centers and fish to their heart’s content, learning from coaches how to cast the lines and catch the biggest fish they can find.

History of Fishing Month

Fishing has been around as far as humanity, as fish are a staple part of people’s diets and have influenced cultures going back thousands of years.

As fishing turned from a necessity into a commodity, fly fishing had become a popular sport and leisure activity from the 19th century onward. Inventions such as the Nottingham reel, fiberglass rods, and synthetic bait has made fishing an easier and more accessible activity for many to do.

Fishing competitions can now be seen everywhere on TV, and whenever there’s a local park with a lake or river near it, it’s now easy enough for anyone to buy a fishing pole and go out fishing to see what’s the catch of the day.

Fishing, both a common necessity, a sport, and a recreational activity, bring people of all ages fun as well as tasty fish. Fishing Month, inspired by fishing enthusiasts alike, is a month when people come together to learn about fishing, practices their reeling-in skills, and make the most fun out of this activity.

Throughout the month, coaches help new fishers learn the techniques of fishing, such as preparing the line, hooking the bait, and seeing where the best fishing spots are in the area and how to spot them.

In some places, the fees for fishing are waivered, allowing people of all ages to try out fishing for themselves. Hundreds of localized events happen all over the world as people come together to celebrate fishing and teach each other the craft.

How to Celebrate Fishing Month

Want to learn how to fish? Take a fishing class and learn from a taught coach about the wonders of fishing. Don’t have the equipment to fish?

Head on over to a Dick’s Sporting Goods or your local sports shop and purchase your own set of fishing gear. You can also rent gear if you head on over to a national park that has fishing as an activity.

Tell your friends and family about the month ahead and plan for a fishing trip. Invite your friends out to fish with you and see what kind of local fish you can reel up.
